Parana on the Fly Lodge is our exclusive location to fish for Dorado, the world’s premier freshwater sport fish. The lodge is located on the upper section of the Parana River, approximately 90 miles downstream from the Yacyreta Dam. As a tail water, this stretch of river is known for its clear and stable water flow. Having these predictable fishing conditions is vitally important for the internationally traveling anglers.
The lodge is located less than 30 yards from our private docks so our guests spend less time traveling and more time fishing. We can accommodate up to 10 anglers in 6 fully air-conditioned rooms. A separate, fully air-conditioned clubhouse serves as the dinning room, lounge and kitchen. Chef Orlando, prepares delicious meals that include both traditional and international cuisine. We have kept a log over the past two seasons to help answer this question. These are the catch rates per angler per week.
Dorado – 15-20 fish between 6 and 15 lbs.
80% caught a 20+ lb fish and of those anglers 50% caught another 2-3 fish that were 20+ lbs.
Pira pita – 10-15 fish between 4-10 lbs.
Pacu – 1 -2 fish between 8-20 lbs.
Yes. Dorado, pacu and pira pita all share the same water.
It is actually very close. The boats are docked less than 100 feet from your room. We can begin fishing right in front of the lodge or some days we’ll travel 15-30 minutes. Our goal is to put you on fish while at the same time minimizing running time.
Typically late in the afternoon mosquitoes will make their presence felt. However, a good repellant will take care of the problem. All bedrooms have screened windows and are air-conditioned which helps eliminate their presence in your room.
The food is excellent. Orlando, the chef, takes great pride in his work and prepares a wide variety of traditional and international dishes. Each meal will be a treat and the only complaint commonly expressed is that the portions are too big. High quality locally raised beef, lamb and chicken are offered as is fresh pastas, empanadas and quiches. Outstanding Argentine wines are served at both lunch and dinner. Also a bar with a selection of basic liquors is available to make your favorite drink. If you have any special dietary needs or requirements just let Orlando know.
