Andes Drifters has pioneered this never before offered style of fishing in northern Patagonia. Come and join us to discover these “dream streams” for yourself!
The area contains several free flowing creeks that are created by underground aquifers as opposed to melting snow from the Andes Mountains. Water is “pushed” by the force of pressure from the underground source and this creates flows that remain relatively consistent and cool throughout the season. Many of the spring creeks that we fish offer slower moving or flat water. This environment fosters a high degree of insect activity including mayflies and caddis. Not surprisingly, trout (brook, rainbow and brown) thrive in these conditions. This is truly a dry fly fishing paradise for anglers in search sight fishing and trout hunting possibilities. This area also contains additional fishing opportunities away from the spring creeks. The upper Alumine River offers multiple floating opportunities and the Quillen and Pulmari River’s present fantastic wade fishing. Pristine mountain lakes such as the Pulmari, Quillen and Rucachoroy will allow you to sight cast dry flies to large, hungry trout.
You will have two possible lodging alternatives. The first option is Casa de Campo Lodge, which is situated a few miles south of the town of Alumine. The lodge is very comfortable and conveniently located close to the areas waters. The other alternative is an Andes Drifters Deluxe River Camp. This is a great way to experience the natural beauty that surrounds this remote area. If you like you can combine both alternatives and create a third possibility.
Alumine Dream Streams, FAQs
On the smaller streams and creeks we only walk and wade. On the Alumine River and nearby lakes we will fish from the rafts. This is a dry fly fishing paradise.
Patience is the key to fishing on the spring creeks. Enjoying the challenge and successfully casting to a particular fish will reward you handsomely.
Yes. You will need to be in reasonably good physical condition to enjoy this experience. We will drive as close as possible to the fishing locations but you will need to do some hiking in order to search for trout.
This fishery is all about hunting and sight casting to a specific feeding fish. You will be targeting fewer fish but each fish will be targeted using a planned strategy to fool them into taking your fly. This is not about catching big numbers but probably the most rewarding angling experience period.
Only if this is what you prefer. If this is your preferred option we can use our Deluxe River Camps and enjoy the natural beauty. Otherwise we use Casa de Campo Lodge as our headquarters. The lodge’s location offers easy access to all the areas waters.
Casa de Campo Lodge is approximately 2 hours north of San Martin de los Andes. It is a beautiful drive and follows the Alumine River for the majority of the trip. From the lodge most of the fishing is reachable between 30 minutes and one hour.
