ACTIVITIES LIST


TOURING ACTIVITIES

1: CITY TOUR

Upon arrival in San Martín de los Andes we will take a city tour. We will learn about the town and its history while we overlook it from a panoramic overlook. We will then enjoy tea at Arrayan tea house, one of the oldest houses in the area which has a wonderful view of Lacar Lake.

2: GOURMET AND REGIONAL COOKING

We will join chef Adrian on a trip to local markets to purchase selected products and specialties as well as visit a local farm to obtain their fresh ingredients. This will be followed by a cooking class to prepare the regional products into a feast that will be served with fine wines.

3: TOUR - LOLOG LAKE

We will spend the day discovering the beautiful corners of Lolog Lake. The lake is located in Lanin National Park and surrounded by mountains and the Nothofagus forests. At the end of this lake, on a very calm bay we will meet a world class painter, Ivan Moritz Karl, in his studio and have a unique Patagonian lunch. On our way back we will stop on a beautiful bay and will enjoy a walk to a nice waterfall and enjoy tea by the lake shore.

4: WINE TASTING

at La Cava de los Andes. In the afternoon we will have a wine tasting at a local wine store owned by Jorge Salazar and his wife Celeste. They are very knowledgeable and will select the best wines of each region of Argentina. If you’re a wine enthusiastic we can arrange a series of tastings so you can come to know the different grapes and wine regions of our country.

5: GOLFING

We spend the day at Chapelco Golf Course, the first in South America designed by Jack Nicklaus. This 18 hole, par 72 was designed to fit the spectacular scenery of the area. We will have lunch at their restaurant enjoying the fantastic views.

6: SPA

The Chapleco Loi Resort is a five star hotel from the nationally recognized Loi Hotel group. At this high end resort we will find a nice Spa. You will enjoy relaxing while viewing the Chapelco Mountain chain.

7: SHOPPING AND OUTDOOR DINING

Shopping and outdoor dinning - We will enjoy the day shopping for traditional and regional products: leather, sweaters, jewelry, shoes, souvenirs, etc. In the afternoon we will drive to Pil-Pil Valley. We will visit a unique Mapuche farm surrounded by the beauty of our national park. There, in the evening, we will enjoy an outdoor gourmet dinner, with a nice wine selection made by our chef Adrian. We will dine enjoying breathtaking views and accompanied by local musicians playing the flute and the guitar while the sunset is approaching.

8: GOURMET AND REGIONAL COOKING

Gourmet and Regional Cooking: We will go to market with Chef Adrian to buy local specialties. In the afternoon we will have a wine tasting at a local wine store owned by Jorge Salazar and his wife Celeste. They are very knowledgeable and will select the best wines of each region of Argentina. This will be a good introduction to our wines. This will be followed by a cooking class to prepare the regional products into a feast that will be served with fine wines.

9: SPA

We leave San Martin and take the 7 Lakes road to Villa La Angostura, a beautiful mountain village. On our way there we will enjoy the magnificent view of the lakes Lacar, Falkner, Machonico, Villarino, Espejo, Correntoso and Nahuel Huapi, and the scenery of the forests of Nothofagus. We will stay in Puerto Sur Hotel & Spa and will enjoy an afternoon of relaxation with anti-stress massages and sauna. 10: SPA

We will enjoy a morning of relaxation at the hotel spa. Massages, hydro-massages facials, the swimming pool and the sauna are some of the options. We will have lunch at a local micro-brewery called Australis. In the afternoon we will sail the Nahuel Huapi Lake on the hotel sail boat. We will enjoy dinner at the hotel’s restaurant.

11: TANGO DAY

We leave San Martin in the morning and drive to Pil – Pil valley, a scenic area of the national park close to town. There we will enjoy tango music outdoors played a by local musician, who will teach us about this fascinating Argentine music style. We will have lunch in the valley. In the afternoon we will take a tango lesson. We will have the chance to see real professionals, like Marcos y Analia dancing. And if you are brave enough, we can try a few steps of this sensual dance. It is an exiting experience.

12: TOURING

Quila Quina, Pil-Pil Valley and Arrayan Tea House. We leave San Martin in the morning and drive to Quila Quina a nice summer village. There we visit a waterfall and a Cyprus grove. Afterwards we will continue driving to Pil-Pil valley where we will visit a unique Mapuche farm surrounded by the beauty of our national park. In the afternoon we take a short hike to a panoramic view of town, finishing at a tea house. The tea house is one of the oldest homes in San Martin area. There you will taste wonderful blends of different teas.

13: PHOTOGRAPHY

We leave town early in the morning and we head south. We will take advantage of the first rays of lights reflecting on the scenery. We will drive on the Seven Lakes Road for 50 miles, taking pictures of mountains and valleys. Afterwards we detour to the east, to the drier area. Here the cypress forest prevails and we will see amazing rocky formations. The light reflects in different and wonderful ways on the rock, as we drive along the road. We will visit Meliquina Lake, Meliquina River, Filo Hua Hum River and Caleufu River. These are different and beautiful sceneries that we will be able to capture with our cameras.

14: PHOTOGRAPHY

We leave town early in the morning and we head south. We will take advantage of the first rays of lights reflecting on the scenery. We will drive on the Seven Lakes Road capturing the beauty of the natural forest, the mountains and the valleys. We will enjoy the magnificent view of the lakes Lacar, Falkner, Machonico, Villarino, Espejo, Correntoso and Nahuel Huapi. When we reach Espejo Lake we will go on a short hike to Correntoso Lake. We will walk through the deep forest taking a closer look at wilderness. Afterwards we drive for 15 more minutes and we reach Villa La Angostura, a nice mountain village, where we will have lunch. We will tour the village taking pictures of the area. In the afternoon we will return to San Martin. We will enjoy the colors of sun set on the mountains.

15: TWO-DAYS PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

This is a unique opportunity to spend time learning from the top artist Eliseo Miciu who will teach you the secrets of capturing the magic of the sceneries here. If you’re an enthusiast of photography be sure to take this opportunity where you will learn from a very creative photographer.

16: GAUCHO FESTIVAL

Every February in Junin de los Andes, 45 km east of San Martin, we have La Fiesta del Puestero for four days. There you will have an open-air market of gaucho clothing, leather woods and horse equipment. It is a gauchos´ party and we are all invited. We will see rodeos, horse contests, folk dancing, and many more traditional things. We will have the chance to taste traditional Argentine meals and barbecues.

17: MAPUCHE FARM DAY

We will enjoy a day in a unique spot: a Mapuche farm surrounded by native forest, beautiful mountains and breathtaking views. Guadalupe and Ricardo will show us the property and all the animals they have: sheep, goats, hens, ducks, llamas, and horses among others. They are both artisans. Ricardo does unique work with leather, creating beautiful horse laces. His laces are fine and elegant and therefore used for jewelry as well. Guadalupe knits using two different kinds of looms and designs traditional Mapuche as well as urban weaving. They will prepare an asado, the traditional gaucho barbeque, for us while you will have the opportunity to learn the native culture and how they live, the animals they raise and details of their ancestral culture.

18: WATERFALL, MUSIC & TEA HOUSE

We leave San Martin in the morning and take the Seven Lakes Road. We will enjoy the spectacular scenery of Lanin National Park and the views of Lacar Lake, Machonico Lake, Falkner Lake and Villarino Lake. After 45 minutes driving we will stop at a special area for a picnic. While we have lunch we will enjoy the sound of Argentine music played by a local musician. After lunch we will start a short hike to a wonderful waterfall. On our way back to town we will stop at a panoramic view of San Martin and from there we will walk to Arrayan Tea House, one of the oldest houses in the area. There we will enjoy different tea blends to relax at the end of the day.

19: A "BLEND" OF NATURE AND WINE

This invitation is for those who, regardless of their fitness level or age, love the mountains and who wish to live it intensely and enjoy the ritual of having lunch in the open with a magnificent view, enjoying a wonderful argentine wine selection. Early in the morning we will leave San Martín de los Andes and drive for about 45 minutes to Hua Hum in Lanin National Park. Once there we will start a soft hike (30 minutes) to Chachin waterfall. These are an amazing falls surrounded by the best of our rain forest. We will hike back to the Nonthue Lake shore where our chef will be waiting for us with his own creation of a traditional dish. The lunch will be accompanied by some of our best wines. Afterwards, our guides will have the kayaks ready. We will enjoy the wonderful experience of kayaking on the crystal clear waters of this lake (about one hour). Later in the afternoon, we will reach a beautiful lake beach where our vehicles will be awaiting us to drive us back to town. Hiking and kayaking, difficulty: low.

20: GOURMET SAIL

In the morning we leave the cabañas for Lacar Lake shore. Our boat will be waiting for us by the dock. We will start sailing the crystal clear waters of the lake, surrounded by spectacular mountains, covered with amazing Nothofagus forests. We will have lunch in a beautiful lake beach. Our chef Adrian will delight us with the creation of a traditional dish. We will accompany the meal with an exclusive Argentine wine collection. In the afternoon we will enjoy sailing the lake, swimming, snorkeling and even scuba diving if you like. In the evening we will return to San Martín.

21: VIA CHRISTI JUNIN DE LOS ANDES

In Junin de los Andes we will visit a Via Christi designed by the architect Alejandro Santana. It is located in De La Cruz Hill close to the town. This is a 2 km via that represents the most important moments in the life of Christ. Along these 2 km there are 16 designed areas recreating the life of Christ. There are amazing statues in each scene. What is very interesting about this work is how it reflects both the Christian and the Mapuche (Patagonian Aboriginals). One example is the religious sculptures with Mapuche looks. Each stop has a diameter circle representing the sun and is in the circle where the statues are located. It is a very interesting site to see the fusion of two cultures.

22: HIKE & MUSIC

Queñi Lake -thermal waters. We visit Queñi Lake, located in the rain forest of Lanin National Park. We leave in the morning and drive west to the lake. A local musician will come along with us. He will delight us with guitar and flute music while we enjoy an asado for lunch. In the afternoon we walk for about 1 hour and 15 minutes to several pools of thermal waters. In the evening we return to SMA. Difficulty: low.

23: HIKE - CURRUHINCA MT

Curruhinca Mt – Day. This is a short and very nice hike that we can start in the morning. We will reach the top by lunch where we will enjoy a "picada" of regional products and Argentine wine while we enjoy the panoramic view of the town. Difficulty: low/medium.

24: HIKE - ARROYO PARTIDO

Arroyo Partido. We leave San Martin at 10:00 AM, driving southwest. We will drive on a paved road for about 20 minutes, enjoying the scenery of the native forest. We start hiking up an easy trail. We enter a Lengas forest and after one hour we the take the main trail and then take a secondary mountain trail. We will have the chance to see woodpeckers and other bird species. One and a half hours later we reach a natural balcony that over looks Pil-Pil Valley, Lacar Lake and the mountains surrounding it. We have lunch up there. Afterwards we start returning back to the main road. Difficulty: low/medium.

25: HIKE - COLORADO MT

Colorado Mt. We leave San Martin at 10:00 AM, driving west. We will drive on a dirt road for about 25 minutes, enjoying the scenery of the native forest. We start hiking up on an easy trail by the side of a creek. We will hike up for three hours. As we gain altitude we have better views of the valley. Finally we reach the top (1775 meters). From there we can see Lacar Lake, Lolog Lake and part of San Martin. The soil is red solid lava, because this is an old volcano. We will have lunch at the top and afterwards we will return back to the car. Difficulty: medium.

26: HIKE - BOSQUE DE ARRAYANES

Bosque de Arrayanes. Early in the morning we leave for Villa La Angostura. Once there we drive to Quetrihue Peninsula where we take a catamaran to the tip of the peninsula to visit the Arrayanes (red barked tree) forest and have lunch. Afterwards we start a hike back to the coast. Difficulty: medium.

27: HIKE - ACHEN NIYEU

Achen Ñiyeu Volcano. After breakfast we will leave town and drive for two hours to the northwest area of Lanin National Park. We will arrive in Laguna Verde where we will start hiking on the black volcanic sand that surrounds it. The first part of the hike is about 3 hours through different kinds of forest: native trees, shrubs and canes. Afterwards we will start hiking up towards the top where we will see the crater of this volcano and enjoy a unique view of the national park and Lanin Volcano. Difficulty: Medium, long hike.

28: HIKE - LANIN VOLCANO

Early in the morning we leave for the volcano. We will drive for about 1 ½ hours. Once we reach the volcano we register with the park ranger. We will spend the night in tents at 8000 feet high. We get up at 3:00 AM and start walking on the frozen snow with crampons. We reach the top at 12587 feet high. We will have lunch up there and we will enjoy a fantastic view. We will walk for 4 hours back to the camp site, where we will have some time to rest and retrieve our equipment and we will start the final descent for about 3 hours. Difficulty: high, challenging

29: BIKING

Trompul - Mapuche Community. We will ride back country roads through Mapuche reservations (aboriginals from Patagonia). We will have lunch at a beach by the lake. In the afternoon we will cycle enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Andenean forest. Our tour will finish downtown where we will spend the night.

30: CROSSING THE ANDES (two nights - three days)

Day 1: We leave San Martin at 8:00 AM and drive into the rain forest of Lanin National Park for two hours. It is a beautiful drive and we will enjoy the scenery of the native forest and the Lolog, Currhue Chico and Currhue Grande Lakes. We will arrive in a beautiful Spa located in the forest. They will be waiting for us with tea, welcoming us to start with the ritual of thermal baths. Each pool has different temperatures and there are pools outside and pools inside. We will follow a circuit combining all of them. We will have a rest after each bath in special resting areas. We will have a Vichy shower which is excellent for relaxing, and a unique experience. Afterwards we will enjoy a gourmet lunch and in the afternoon we can take a yoga class, Tai Chi class, meditation, Japanese cooking, Japanese archery or return to the thermal pools. Day 2: We have breakfast at the hotel and afterwards we will start our journey towards Huilo- Huilo Natural Reserve and Magic Mountain Hotel in Chile. On our way there we will visit Liquiñe, a Chilean mountain village. This is a beautiful area of Valdivian Jungle. Once at the reserve, we will see the wild life, the river and a beautiful waterfall. We will have lunch at the hotel. In the afternoon we will take a guided tour to the reserve. We will spend the night at Magic Mountain Hotel. Day 3: After breakfast we will be ready to enjoy one of the many activities that Huilo – Huilo Reserve has to offer. Some of them are hiking, mountain biking, and canopy. Afterwards we will ride our bike to Puerto Fuy, where we will take a ferry back to Argentina. We will cross the international border and we will drive for one and a half hours back to San Martin de los Andes.

31: KAYAKING

Nonthue lake & Lacar lake. In the morning we leave for Nonthue Lake, west of town. We leave our equipment at the camp site and start a hike to Chachin waterfall. When we return we have lunch by the lake and afterwards we kayak around Nonthue Lake. The next day, after breakfast we start kayaking to the east in the direction to San Martin. We will row for about 22 miles. At lunch time we will stop at a beach and afterwards we will continue to town (about six hours total).

32: BIRDWATCHING - LANIN NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning we drive to the Magallanic Forest in Lanin National Park. We will have the chance to see several endemic species and typical bird families that exist in the subantartic region. Some examples are the Magallanic woodpecker or the Campephilius magellanicus. We will have lunch by the shore of Verde Lagoon. Late in the afternoon we return to San Martin de los Andes.

33: BIRDWATCHING - CHAPELCO

Early in the morning we drive up to Chapelco, the highlands of the area. Many species arrive from the Puna (northern, high Andean plains) during the summer, and it is only possible to see them by ascending to the high mountains areas. There we have the chance to see condors (vulture gryphus), ground – tyrants, sierra finches, among others.

34: BIRDWATCHING - PATAGONIAN STEPPE

Early in the morning we drive east of San Martin heading to the Patagonian steppe, the lowlands. We will visit a condor colony. Most of our bird families live in the drier area. We will have lunch by the Collón Cura River, and late in the afternoon we return to town.

35: HORSE BACK RIDING

(In San Martin de los Andes) Just 15 minutes from town we will enjoy horse back riding in Lanin National Park. We will ride for about one and a half hours, enjoying the beautiful sceneries of our park. When we return to the local farm, we will have tea and snacks.

36: HORSE BACK RIDING AT RANCHES

Our guide Carolina Murphy will take you to enjoy a unique experience riding horses in famous Patagonia Ranches. The North Patagonia region combines the ranching tradition with a great environment for horseback riding trips. Many are through the foothills of the Andes where you will discover great secluded corners of our sceneries while you’re enjoying and learning of the gaucho daily ways of work.

37: POLO CLASSES IN PATAGONIA (2 days - 1 night)

Day 1: In the morning we take the Seven Lakes road to Villa La Angostura, a beautiful mountain village. On our way there we will enjoy the magnificent view of the lakes Lacar, Falkner, Machonico, Villarino, Espejo, Correntoso and Nahuel Huapi, and the scenery of the Nothofagus forests. Once in San Carlos de Bariloche we will drive to Arelauquen Lodge. We will check in at the hotel and have lunch there. In the afternoon we will visit the polo fields and the horse boxes. We will have our first introduction to the horses and the game of polo.

Day 2: After breakfast we get ready for our stick and ball class. Our professional trainer will teach us the basics of this passionate game. Afterwards we will enjoy a late lunch at Talisman Gourmet Restaurant at the lodge. It offers a variety of dishes that feature the typical flavors and smells of Argentina. The wine cellar stores a wide selection of the best Argentine wines.

38: POLO CLASSES IN PATAGONIA (3 days - 2 nights)

Day 1: In the morning we take the Seven Lakes road to Villa La Angostura, a beautiful mountain village. On our way there we will enjoy the magnificent view of the lakes Lacar, Falkner, Machonico, Villarino, Espejo, Correntoso and Nahuel Huapi, and the scenery of the Nothofagus forests. Once in San Carlos de Bariloche we will drive to Arelauquen Lodge. We will check in at the hotel and have lunch there. In the afternoon we will visit the polo fields and the horse boxes. We will have our first introduction to the horses and the game of polo.

Day 2: After breakfast we get ready for our stick and ball class. Our professional trainer will teach us the basics of this passionate game. Afterwards we will enjoy a late lunch at the Club House of the Polo Club. In the afternoon we continue practicing on our horses. We will have dinner at Talisman Gourmet Restaurant, at the lodge. It offers a variety of dishes that features the typical flavors and smells of Argentina. The wine cellar stores a wide selection of the best Argentine wines.

Day 3: During polo season (summer) practices and tournaments are organized so you may have the chance to watch some of the best polo players of Argentina. In the morning we will enjoy another stick and ball class, and after lunch we will return to San Martín de los Andes.
